What is SDF (Statutory Declaration Form)?

SDF (Statutory Declaration Form) was a form used by Indian exporters to declare export details to customs and confirm that the export proceeds would be received in accordance with foreign exchange regulations.

The SDF was part of the traditional export documentation process and was submitted along with the shipping bill for eligible exports. With the move to electronic export reporting, the SDF requirement has been integrated into the electronic shipping bill process rather than being used as a separate physical form.

How It Works:

  • Exporter provides required export details.
  • Details are included in the shipping bill.
  • Customs processes the export declaration.
  • The bank receives export-related information.
  • Export proceeds are monitored under applicable rules.

Benefits:

  • Supported export documentation
  • Helped meet foreign exchange requirements
  • Provided details of export proceeds
  • Connected customs and banking processes

Example:

An Indian exporter ships goods overseas and provides the required declaration through the electronic shipping bill instead of submitting a separate physical SDF.
