Caution List

Home > Finance Glossary > Caution List

What is Caution List?

A caution list contains details of all exporters who haven’t complied with export-related rules and requirements. The list is maintained by the RBI, or Reserve Bank of India, after careful consideration.

Being placed on the Caution List can lead to additional checks by banks when the exporter carries out export transactions. The exporter may need to provide additional information or obtain approval before receiving certain banking or export-related facilities.

How It Works:

  • RBI identifies non-compliance.
  • Exporters may be placed on the list.
  • Banks apply additional checks.
  • Exporter addresses the pending issues.
  • Name may be removed after compliance.

Benefits:

  • Encourages timely export compliance
  • Helps banks manage export-related risks
  • Promotes proper reporting of export proceeds
  • Helps identify unresolved export issues

Example:

An Indian exporter fails to realise export proceeds within the required period. If the issue remains unresolved, the exporter may be placed on the RBI Caution List and face additional banking checks.
