What is Cargo?

Cargo refers to goods or products that are transported from one place to another by road, rail, air, or sea. It includes everything from raw materials and machinery to consumer goods, food products, and electronics. Businesses use cargo services to move products safely and efficiently between suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses, and customers.

Cargo is crucial in both domestic and international trades to ensure the goods are delivered within the promised timeline. It will be transported through ship, flight, or train depending on the size and type of the cargo along with its urgency. The goods should be packed and stored properly to prevent damages during transit.

How It Works:

  • Goods are packaged and prepared for shipment.
  • They are handed over to a logistics provider or carrier.
  • The cargo is transported via the chosen mode (air, sea, road, rail).
  • It is delivered to the consignee at the destination.

Benefits:

  • Enables domestic and international trade
  • Supports supply chain movement of goods
  • Facilitates bulk transportation efficiently
  • Helps businesses expand to new markets

Example:

A furniture manufacturer in Delhi ships 500 office chairs to a retailer in Mumbai by truck. Here, the office chairs being transported are known as cargo.
