What is IDPMS?

IDPMS (Import Data Processing and Monitoring System) is an electronic system used in India to monitor import transactions and related foreign exchange payments. It helps authorized banks and regulators track import documents, payments made to overseas suppliers, and the status of import transactions.

The system supports compliance with India’s foreign exchange regulations by connecting import-related data with banks and customs. It helps ensure that payments for imported goods are properly reported and that import transactions are completed within the applicable requirements.

How It Works:

  • The importer places an order with an overseas supplier.
  • Import details are reported through the banking system.
  • Bank records import and payment information.
  • Import documents are matched and monitored.
  • Transaction status is updated after completion.

Benefits:

  • Helps monitor import payments
  • Supports foreign exchange compliance
  • Improves import transaction tracking
  • Reduces manual paperwork

Example:

An Indian company imports machinery from Germany and makes payment to the supplier. The transaction is recorded and monitored through IDPMS by the authorized bank.
